Alexandrite Chrysobery
“Emerald by day, ruby by night,” Alexandrite, the color-change variety of chrysoberyl, is famous for its unique color-changing ability. While the Russians treasured it for it colors that reflected Imperial Russia’s flag, mystics hailed it for its spiritual meaning of duality and believed it held the elusive meaning of life. Also reputed for inspiring creative thought, its finest dual colors are vivid green in daylight and intense raspberry red in incandescent light. Alexandrite was historically mined in the Ural Mountains of Russia; Sri Lanka is also a major source.
